New missed call and caller ID capabilities have been added to Google Voice.

From the missed calls or voicemail areas of the mobile Google Voice app, you may now understand why you could have missed a call (for example, if Do Not Disturb was turned on) and how to avoid it happening again (turning Do Not Disturb off). If your call was dropped due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, Google is making it easier to redial it and switch to your mobile network.

You may now have the app display your Google Voice number instead of the original connected number on caller ID if you use Google Voice on iOS to redirect calls to your number. On Google Voice's web version, you may now erase SMS texts in bulk.

Google's many attempts to link people outside of Gmail have long been mystifying — we've even put together a chronicle of the voyage thus far — but Voice, in particular, has been ignored in the aftermath of Google Fi's more traditional phone service. Voice was updated in 2018, and a dark option was added in 2020, but as a business-oriented Workspace product, it hasn't gone through as many modifications as Google's wild explorations into text and video chats. For the ardent Google Voice user who does not want to be reminded of the service's existence, this may be the best option.
