Pinoy consumers will be able to switch mobile networks on September 30 without losing their present phone numbers. As of that date, telcos expect at least one million of their subscribers to switch to another provider.
Telecommunications Connectivity Incorporated anticipates that this number of people will switch to another network, even though they have seen up to 30% of subscribers port out in other countries.
TCI is a collaboration between Smart, Globe, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology to implement the Mobile Number Portability Act. The statute, which was passed in 2019, permits prepaid and postpaid customers to switch carriers for free while preserving their existing phone number. The act also keeps carriers on their toes because it forces them to keep their users happy or risk losing them.
Before switching, subscribers must have no financial obligations to their present service provider. A two-month waiting period is also in place to avoid multiple network switches.
